Happy Draft Day, ladies and gentlemen.
It is currently 5:15AM in Houston, Texas. I've brewed a pot of delicious black gold with beans from Venezuela. The house is dead quiet. I'm focused. This is zen. I've hit my flow state. I am more locked in than ever before.
I'm ready for redemption.
Look, last year did a number on me. I had made it into my first championship after somehow besting Scott in the semi-finals. It all came down to George Kittle, and he fucking showed up. Call it luck, call it a fluke. For the first time in this league and in my entire fantasy career, I made it to the championship. Against Nick. I had it in the bag, dude. He didn't even have a full starting lineup. He didn't want it like I wanted it.
Tragedy struck. I got too cocky. The fantasy gods were not pleased. I was humbled. I was broken. I came away from last season with $25 back in my pocket and a chip on my shoulder. This year, I want blood.
In between drinking raw eggs and ripping phone books, I decided to throw together a little pet project about a month ago. Welcome to theleaguegazette.org. A proper fantasy publication as well as a living, breathing historical archive of our entire league history. You can view data across the site going all the way back to the league's humble beginnings in 2022.
It was only slightly a bitch-and-a-half to gather it all. Huge shout out to ESPN for deleting our old league data. Even bigger shout out to League Legacy, a third-party platform that archived old ESPN seasons and allowed us to pull up the league data using the league IDs, but did NOT allow us to export it. Biggest shout out goes to ChatGPT and the AI overlords for giving me a script that let me manipulate the HTML and scrape the data from League Legacy. Suck it.
As AJ stated in his welcome article, The Gazette now features more interactivity than ever before. I encourage you, the reader, to comment on stories, vote in the reader poll, and even contribute your own musings (if granted Op-Ed access). My plan is to continue iterating and building on this in the coming weeks, months, and years ahead. I don't know what this will evolve into, but I think it's in a pretty great spot right now as we kick off this latest season.
This article falls into the category of "Random Bullshit". This will be my category. I do not have nearly the depth of ball knowledge that AJ has. I'll let him handle the real league insights and analysis. When inspiration strikes and I'm moved to pick up the proverbial pen, I'll write about whatever. It may not be fantasy-related at all. It's my website, damnit. I'll use it as I please.
Let's make this year one for the books. Good luck, have fun, don't die. I'll see you all on the field.
