The Halfway Point

With the conclusion of Week 8, we have officially passed the halfway point of this fantasy regular season. This affords us a great opportunity to take a look at how the cookie has crumbled thus far, and who is setting their teams up for success.

In place of any recap stories this week we instead took a deep dive into each team and assigned them the grade we feel best represents their performance to date, as well as where they may be going in the future.

For some, this can serve as a sort of mid-season coronation ceremony. For others, it will likely be a wake-up call. However, for many owners in the league this season things are not exactly black and white.

To kick things off, let's take a look at how our pole position drafter has fared through her first half of fantasy gauntlets.

Starting off the year The General had her troops in line and were decimating everything in their path - Blitzkrieg style. Through five weeks Julia found herself sitting at 4-1 and was one of the strongest teams in the league.

Ever since then it has been all downhill for our sole female representative. A Lions bye in Week 6 started The Hut's three-game skid and the roster just has not been able to get back on track since.

Do not be fooled though, this team has one of the highest ceilings of any lineup league wide. Up until this past week Julia was the owner of the highest-scoring week of the season, and has topped 150 points multiple times.

The problem with this team is consistency. Part of that comes from heavy reliance on the Lions offense for production, and the other comes from hit or miss days from key role players like Cam Skattebo and Nico Collins.

The potential is still there for a strong postseason run, but this owner will need to address the swings to minimize her downside.

After what can only be considered a roller coaster of a season thus far, Scott Baker and his love for fantasy football cannot be too upset at their current position.

Sitting at a gratuitous 4-4, the League's boogeyman might just have the other owners right where he wants them.

Starting off 0-2 is never a good sign for a season, but Scott has battled back and traded blows with the best of them these last couple weeks to maintain his .500 record.

This team still lacks the potential for a huge scoring week, but this is a middling roster that has shown noticeable improvement over the last few weeks. It seems fitting their best metric is their momentum.

They have one more favorable draw next week against The Reapers, but then two tough games against the Naberhood Watch and JaMario Kart Racers.

This team looks quite different from the beginning of the season, but whatever Scooter is baking in there seems to be pushing this team out of the depths and into the hunt.

Being an Actuary during the daylight hours comes with a certain disposition, and that is to look for consistency above almost all else. Team Pain is officially my counterexample for this ideology.

Coming into Week 9 with a modest 3-5 record, Derek's band of brothers just have not been able to make it over the hump this season into fantasy relevancy.

They have often flirted with getting back into the black, but keep putting up low totals week after week. Sure, they're one of the most consistent teams in the league, but you can't ride consistency to victory.

Relegated as one of the League's "Taco Wins" this year, Team Pain really has struggled to take advantage of most opportunities - most recently falling to the deceptively poor 2-5 Slashers.

Things are not totally over for this squad though, as they have had some surges in recent weeks adding on to their momentum going into the season's proverbial "Back-9." If they can continue to build off their recent weeks and ride this Josh Jacobs train, they might just have enough in the tank for a wild-card bid.

No, lady and gentlemen, the radar chart above is not for 2018 LeBron, but instead is for one of the best teams in this League's young history - The 2026 Naberhood Watch.

What is there to say about the man Brandon Smith that has not already been said. So far this season he has enjoyed a roster for the ages that is purely of his own construction.

Despite not having much of a bench presence, it just does not seem to matter since the starting lineup is so good. I mean, the guy just posted the best total of the year, and his best player flopped...

Whether it's savvy picks like Parker Washington, surprise production from Bucky Irving, or Isaiah Likely suddenly becoming the best tight end in football, everything has been surging at all positions.

The real bitch of it is, his team is actually getting better.

As one of the healthiest rosters in the league his best stars are reliably available, his young guys are panning out well, and every slot has someone who is a key piece of a decent offense.

Outside of a major injury, or at least the return of Breece Hall, there might not be much in the way of Smith and his first fantasy championship this year.

Now we have arrived at this year's most baffling team, the Haddonfield Slashers. Outside of a few exceptions, the beginning of this season was truly remarkable in the worst possible sense of the phrase.

The Slashers started out 0-4, but have remained one of the top-four scoring offenses all season long. They have hit their stride as of late winning 3 of their last 4.

Sure some of these were against some options off the Cantina Chicken menu, but they were games they should win and needed to win.

Not only is this team one of the highest-scoring, but they rank as the most consistent so far this season as well. They show up each week and put their best foot forward, even if their opponent is just a tad bit better.

This is one of the most entertaining teams to watch going into the back half of the season. If they find a way to make the playoffs, it would be the first time in league history a 0-4 start resulted in postseason play.

Unfortunately, when it comes to competition someone has to come in dead last. Currently, this spot is held with an iron grip by Randy Todd and the Edgeville Nut Eaters.

There really is not much optimism in the Outlook for the Nut Eaters here. They have lost almost every game this season, averaged under 115 points per game, and even lost during the best showing in Week 1.

The only statistical silver lining comes from their consistency, but that really shouldn't count if they're just consistently ass every single week.

Ever since the Kelce trade back early in the season, the production for this roster has fallen off a cliff and shown no hope of turning back around. It might be time for this owner to offload some top talent for some lineup stuffers.

I wish there was more to say here, but sometimes it just isn't your year. I'll see the Nut Eaters in 2026.

Alright, hold on to your heads now so you don't get whiplash. It's time to pivot over to one of the other crown jewels of the League this season with the Fremennik Exiles.

Led by Brennan Kurdys, this is potentially the season of destiny that the Exiles' owner has been looking for since joining the League in 2023.

The Exiles have the reputation of constantly catching the injury bug that ends their season before it begins. This year has turned that narrative on its head and kicked it right through the uprights.

Boasting one of the only offenses that can compete with the Naberhood Watch, Brennan currently looks like the last bastion of hope for the rest of the League to avoid a total steamroll.

This roster is consistent, full of top talent, and has recently found new contributors down sheet in their flex spots. Jameson Williams and Jaylen Warren have blossomed into the release valve this team needed to reach the next level.

Their early season success was driven by just a few stars, but now they have options at multiple positions that almost completely prevent them from having a bad week. Consider this team 1B in the favorites for this year's championship.

Just when he thought none of us were watching, I finally started to pay attention to Amir Elgeyoushi this week. Now for some of you readers this season, that is not a name we have heard much from so far.

Coming into 2026, Amir was looking like a rising star amongst fantasy owners. This was quickly snuffed out though after a four game skid in Weeks 3 thru 6. All seemed lost as they joined the Nut Eaters and Team Pain at the bottom of the standings.

However, a new light has been shining these past couple weeks as their offense has exploded. The resurgence of Rashee Rice and Luther Burden has raised the tide, and therefore all boats for the Suns.

The guy put up over 160-points last week and he benched Saquon Barkley... what is even happening??

The Suns have a cache of high-level quarterbacks waiting in the wings, and have multiple players who can explode on any given week. These guys should be considered the sleeper game of the League right now as they have enough fire power to beat anyone in any given week.

I'll personally be looking at the Suns a little closer over the next few games as they face off against two tough opponents in the Racers and Slashers. The middle of the standings could look very different soon.

Next up we have Mr. QB13, Captain 9th-pick, and Spooky Lou himself, Nick Lewandowski. The season may not be up to the standards of one of the most decorated owners the League has to offer, but why not?

The Reapers have been plagued with a few different ailments this year. Sometimes it's a major injury bug, sometimes it's picking the wrong guy to start, but the last couple weeks it sadly has been mismanagement.

Two weeks in a row the Reapers could have given themselves a chance at the win, but instead started Lamar Jackson who has been OUT for both contests. This is unfortunate, but we have seen it happen this season.

The Reapers, at best, could be 4-4 but now find themselves at a measly 2-6 and solidly out of the playoff picture. If ownership can find their way back to being active there could be some hope for a late run, but if another week or two of this goes by then it's all over.

Similar to the Nut Eaters the Reapers have high consistency, but this is mainly due to low scores in most of their weeks thus far.

The wheels are off this bus entirely, and the driver forgot the spare at home.

Last, but not least, we have the Commish himself AJ Kurdys and his team the JaMario Kart Racers. The Racers have probably had the most tumultuous of seasons this year, but still find themselves at 5-3.

The Racers began the season with a 3-0 record and the highest scoring offense in the league. Stretch picks in Jeremiyah Love and Breece Hall were paying dividends, and Travis Kelce was producing early.

After that start though they dropped three straight while attempting to navigate over half a dozen bye weeks and multiple injuries to key stars every single week.

The roster still is not fully healthy and missing out on waiver pickup Braelon Allen still keeps Kurdys up at night as he watches the Naberhood cash in on his misery.

Things are looking up for the Racers though, as they have now won two straight and are passed most of their bye-week woes. The rest of the league will need to navigate now while the Racers are in full force.

Injury problems still persist with the aforementioned Hall and Love, but an Alec Pierce stash could pay off in a big way if this team can continue to weather their FLEX spot struggles.

And. Here. We. Go.

And there you have it. Eight weeks in the books, two juggernauts sitting atop the mountain, and a whole lot of mediocrity fighting for the scraps below.

Some owners are building championship résumés, others are desperately trying to keep their seasons on life support, and a select few might already be looking toward 2027.

But as we all know, fantasy football has a funny way of making fools out of even the most confident prognosticators.

With the second half of the season upon us, there's still plenty of time for fortunes to change, dreams to die, and somebody to get royally screwed by a three-point loss. Here's to eight more weeks of absolute chaos.
